Foam Technology
- Helion™ superfoam - TPE-based compound: Helion is On’s primary performance midsole foam. In the brand’s hierarchy, it sits below their Pebax-based racing foams but above entry-level EVA blends. It is designed to balance durability, rebound, and temperature resistance. Underfoot, it feels firm-to-responsive rather than marshmallow-soft. It prioritizes long-run comfort, consistent energy return, and platform stability over ultra-soft sink-in cushioning.
- CloudTec® pods + Speedboard® (nylon blend): The large CloudTec cavities compress and rebound to create a rolling sensation through toe-off. The embedded nylon Speedboard is not carbon, but it adds structure and forefoot snap. It improves efficiency without creating the aggressive stiffness of a plated race shoe.
Comfort & Fit Notes
- Fit: True-to-size length with a secure midfoot and moderately roomy forefoot.
- Upper: Engineered mesh with structured overlays - breathable but not overly minimal.
- Step-in feel: High-stack cushioning with a slightly firmer, energetic rebound rather than a soft sink.
- Stability feel: Neutral platform with inherent guidance from the wide base and rocker geometry - no traditional stability posting.
How This Shoe Compares
Compared to Nike Zoom Fly 6
The Zoom Fly 6 is more aggressive and race-oriented, typically firmer and more propulsive through its plate-driven ride. The Cloudmonster 3 feels more forgiving and stable underfoot, especially for longer steady runs. If you want something closer to race-day stiffness, go Zoom Fly. If you want versatile training comfort with pop, the Cloudmonster 3 is more balanced.
Compared to ASICS Sonicblast
The Sonicblast leans lighter and slightly firmer, with a more traditional trainer feel. The Cloudmonster 3 offers a higher stack and more pronounced rocker sensation. For runners wanting maximum cushioning and smooth turnover, the On feels more modern. The ASICS may feel more grounded and conventional.
Pairs Well With
- Cushioned performance running socks for high-mileage comfort
- Lightweight performance shorts or split shorts for workout days
- Electrolyte drink mix for long runs and uptempo sessions
- A plated super shoe reserved for race day
- A lower-stack daily trainer for recovery rotation
