How to Help Central Indiana Flood Victims
Recovery will continue long after floodwaters recede. There are several ways to support neighbors who have been displaced or are beginning the process of cleaning up and rebuilding.
Athletic Annex community support
Donate Shoes at Athletic Annex
Athletic Annex is accepting shoe donations at any of our store locations to support community flood relief. If you have shoes to donate, bring them to the Athletic Annex location most convenient to you.
Make a Financial Donation
Local community foundations have established flood relief funds to help organizations meet immediate needs and support longer-term recovery.
- Hamilton County Flood Relief Fund: The Hamilton County Community Foundation is accepting donations for flood relief. The foundation states that 100% of donations designated to the Hamilton County Flood Relief Fund will support relief efforts where the need is greatest. Donate through the Hamilton County Community Foundation.
- Indianapolis Flood Relief Fund: The Indianapolis Foundation has established a fund supporting organizations helping people affected by flooding in Marion County. Donate to the Indianapolis Flood Relief Fund.
Volunteer Your Time
Organized volunteer efforts can help with cleanup, supply distribution, sorting donations, and other recovery work. Because needs vary from one neighborhood to another, use an organized volunteer sign-up whenever possible rather than arriving in an affected area without direction.
The City of Fishers currently directs residents interested in helping to Volunteer Fishers, and the Do317 resource roundup includes additional volunteer opportunities throughout Hamilton and Marion counties.
If Your Home or Property Was Flooded
Put safety first as you begin the recovery process. Do not enter standing floodwater, drive through flooded roads, or enter a structure that may be unsafe. Continue following instructions from local emergency management officials before returning to evacuated areas.
When it is safe to do so, document damage with photos or video before removing damaged property. Keep records and receipts related to temporary lodging, cleanup, repairs, supplies, and other flood-related expenses.
Flood safety
Never Drive Through Floodwater
Roads and bridges can be damaged beneath the water even when flooding appears shallow. Follow road closure signs and instructions from emergency personnel, and use official city or county resources for current conditions.
